Birth Photography

I am so excited to be offering birth photography! As I’m only just starting out in this genre, I would love photograph first birth for the experience.

I’m in the Western District, edge of the Wimmera and close to the Southern Australian border, so I will be able to shoot birth’s at Horsham, Hamilton, Portland, Naracoorte & Mt Gambier.

This is a genre which I’m totally falling in love with and I wish I had’ve known about birth photography for my first daughter.

There are loads of questions people have when it comes to birth photography and here are a few.

What is Birth Photography?

It is capturing one of the biggest days of your life. There are so many things that happen while your baby is making it’s way into the world and it can be hard to take it all in or remember it all. It’s not like maternity or newborn photography that is posed. I work like a fly on the wall, standing back and photographing what is happening around me. The support, the room, the power, your baby’s first breath, those first moments toghether.

Do you take pictures of the whole labour and birth?

Yes, I will come to you once you are in established labour (around 5-7cm) and stay for the whole birth and 2 hours after the birth to capture those first precious moments.

Will we meet before the birth?

I would love to meet up at twice before the birth with you and your partner if possible.

Do you share your photos on social media & the internet?

No, we talk about this before hand and unless you are fully comfortable with this happening then I do not. Birth photography is so personal and it’s totally up to you.

When should I book?

As soon as you can. If you are thinking it over, please feel free to contact me. I am only going to be booking one birth per month to make sure I available for your birth.

How do I know you will be able to make it?

I will be on call from 2 weeks before your due date. This means having my phone on me at all times, ready to come when you call me. As well as being close by to my home/ the location of your birth.

Do you have insurance to photograph births?

Insurance is essential as a professional photographer. I hold a $20MIL PL Scheme.

What if things go wrong? how will you cope?

I will keep shooting to a point where I personally choose not to or if someone tells me to stop. My job is to document the journey and no matter what the outcome, having photographs to process as you heal from your journey will benefit you.

As a Heartfelt Photographer, I am faced with infant mortality and various scenarios that challenge me personally. I have a network of support for this level of experience.

How long will it take to receive my final order?

Around 4 weeks

I’ve shared this slideshow of from Capturing Life – Birth Photography, it gives me the tingles every time.
